Global Campaign #EK PED MA KE NAAM# Plant4Mother

29th August, 2024, Ri-Bhoi, Meghalaya: As part of the Global Campaign # EK PED MA KE NAAM #Plant4Mother, ICAR-KVK Ri-Bhoi in Meghalaya actively participated in a tree plantation program on August 29, 2024. This initiative, led by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, was part of a coordinated effort across institutions nationwide. At KVK Ri-Bhoi, the program involved planting saplings both within the KVK campus and in local farmers' fields. The program aimed to honor both mothers and Mother Earth, linking personal appreciation with environmental stewardship. To date, w.e.f. World Environment Day, on 5th June 2024; 200 farmers from seven villages in the Ri-Bhoi district participated, planting 2,000 Kashi mandarin and 1,000 Assam lemon saplings. This collective action was intended to symbolize respect for mothers and a commitment to nurturing the environment.
The event contributed significantly to the campaign's goal of planting 3,000-4,000 saplings across the country and supported the broader Mission LiFE initiative, which promotes an environmentally conscious lifestyle and sustainable agricultural practices. Through this campaign, KVK Ri-Bhoi enhanced soil health, improved biodiversity, and provided additional income sources for farmers through fruit production. This effort also played a crucial role in combating land degradation and desertification, fostering the development of greener and healthier communities.
